Robots and Automated Packaging revolutionize the way a leading 3PL manages online orders.

DB Schenker has successfully implemented in its Arlandastad Logistics Center, near Stockholm, Sweden, the CarryPick automated online order fulfillment and returns handling solution. Operated for Lekmer.com, Scandinavia’s largest online toy retailers, the new system will strengthen
DB Schenker´s position in the e-commerce market.

CarryPick is part of DB Schenker’s e-commerce portfolio targeted to customers with large online business looking for significant efficiency improvements. It is an automated storage and goods to person order picking system developed by Swisslog. Core of the solution are self-moving robots (Automated Guided Vehicles – AGV) which drive underneath mobile racks and deliver them to pick stations, where the requested items are picked and packaged.

Due to its modular design the solution can be expanded to face seasonable peaks or growth in the customer´s business and runs on an intelligent software that has been linked to DB Schenker’s own warehouse management system. This connection, which has been created by the in-house IT experts using standard IT interfaces, will facilitate the installation of the solution at other DB Schenker locations as well as for new customers.

“We are proud and very happy to have implemented and run the biggest CarryPick implementation worldwide so far”, says Anders Holmberg, Business Development Manager, DB Schenker in Sweden. “With more than 60 robots and 1,550 mobile racks, we are able to manage 35,000 different articles, 24/7. And pick up to 40,000 order lines per day”, he continues.

The solution covers 10,000 square meters warehouse space from which 6,000 square meters are reserved for the CarryPick-system. Featuring best-in-class efficiency and offering full flexibility, the CarryPick solution increases staff productivity by up to 60 percent while maximizing floor space savings of approximately 20 percent.

This next generation of automatisation has been driven by DB Schenker’s Innovation & Solutions Program, following the company’s focus on Logistics 4.0 strategy. Through actively driving digitalization and investing in innovative future proof technologies, DB Schenker is setting new standards in managing the supply chains of customers around the world and strengthening its positions as their leading Supply Chain Partner of Choice.
