The grand opening of DB SCHENKER’s new Calgary operation facility for one of our long-standing clients showcased the principles of hard work, enduring collaboration, shared values, and a deep appreciation for our front-line associates. As the Grand Opening banner unfurled, it marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Nose Creek Distribution Center, spanning nearly 600,000 square feet, which will cater to numerous stores across the Canadian market and employ over 1,000 associates during peak production across three shifts.
Over time, this facility will evolve into a mechanized operation, incorporating more than 8 kilometers of conveyance/sortation systems. It will leverage an advanced goods-to-person carousel pick solution to enhance speed, efficiency, and accuracy. These advancements will drive the overall effectiveness of our operations, benefiting both our client and DB SCHENKER.
The privilege to operate our client’s facility in Calgary stems from the exceptional 15-year relationship established between our teams. Over the years, we have remained steadfast in our mission to become one of our clients’ most trusted and valued supply chain solution. This dedication culminates in the grand opening of the facility in Calgary, where seven of our staff members relocated to provide their valuable expertise and leadership in operations for our client. However, the Calgary team does not rest on their laurels; they have set their sights on achieving Xsite Silver certification, aiming to match the world-class standards already present in Toronto and Vancouver.
Our day of recognition and celebration included guided tours of the facility, inspiring speeches, and accolades from both our client and DB SCHENKER executives. Hessel Verhage, one of our esteemed board members, made the journey to this new market, further emphasizing the significance of this occasion. The festivities featured a grand opening banner drop, a cake-cutting ceremony, and a personal touch where every individual imprinted their hand on the “Growing Together” banner that will proudly hang in the entrance lobby, symbolizing our humble beginnings.
