Transporting medications and drugs, and APIs in an increasingly complex environment is a carefully orchestrated operation that starts at the pharmaceutical manufacturer, continues through the supply chain, and ends at the individual who needs the medicine. When exposed to high temperatures, humidity, or other elements, these life-critical products can become unsafe or lose efficacy.
Through careful monitoring and thermal management, pharmaceuticals are safely shepherded through the supply chain by a team of logistics professionals, transportation, and freight partners whose mission is to protect lives around the world.
The QEP Achievement Award
With the global mission of blending logistics execution with patient safety and wellbeing, DB Schenker’s Global Healthcare Division recently received Envirotainer’s QEP Achievement Award. Envirotainer launched the award-winning QEP in 2007 to promote the safe handling of pharmaceutical shipments. QEP has led the way for other pharmaceutical handling certification programs and has, together with some of the largest companies within the logistics industry, educated numerous people along the cold chain.
Lorant Kovacs, DB Schenker’s Head of Vertical Market Healthcare, Americas Region, says the logistics provider is honored to receive the award and looking forward to continuing to expand its role in the healthcare supply chain.
“When it comes to pharmaceutical transportation, we recognize that every shipment has a life involved and at the end of the supply chain—a person’s life that may depend on this vital pharmaceutical that’s being transported in an Envirotainer,” says Kovacs.
“With the QEP accreditation,” he states, “we’ll be continuing our mission of connecting those lives and building out our capabilities in the healthcare space.”
Putting Life First
Having served as a critical logistics partner to various entities during the global pandemic, DB Schenker has been working with its strategic partners to help create additional air freight capacity for its healthcare-related shipments. When it comes to pharmaceutical logistics, DB Schenker provides logistic execution with patient safety and well-being at the center, while ensuring product integrity using enhanced end-to-end visibility and standardized processes in a worldwide network.
“We’ve put that capacity to use in the healthcare industry, and also to support hospitals, governments, and cities,” says Kovacs, whose team has also been working with people on the front lines, supporting communities with personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical medical supplies.
These efforts all tie into DB Schenker’s commitment to supporting human life around the world. “From PPE delivery during critical times to the QEP Achievement Award,” says Kovacs, “our organization is continually improving its commitment to the healthcare industry. The QEP Achievement Award recognition is also a demonstration of that.”
