DB Schenker Logistics will officially open its 24,000 square metre import warehouse at the Port of Gothenburg. Several major customers have already moved into the logistics centre, which is now fully operational, the company said in its press release.
The 24,000 square metre warehouse at Arendal, a stone’s throw from the largest port in Scandinavia, was completed in December last year. Since then, several customers have moved in, including the furniture giant Chilli and a number of Volvo suppliers. The centre is now fully operational and the official opening ceremony will take place today.
Construction was made possible thanks to a SEK 120 million investment by the Port of Gothenburg. The property is owned by Gothenburg Port Authority, which leases it to DB Schenker Logistics.
“We are extremely pleased that DB Schenker Logistics, one of the biggest companies in the logistics and transport sector, has chosen to establish operations at the Gothenburg freight hub. Their investment will help to consolidate our position as the preeminent logistics location in Sweden,” said Magnus Kårestedt, Port of Gothenburg Chief Executive.
The new import warehouse will result in increased volumes for the Port of Gothenburg. Once it reaches full capacity, the warehouse will be capable of handling 5,000 TEUs (20-foot containers) each year, a large proportion of which will be completely new volumes for the port. This year it expects to handle 1,000 TEUs.
