As a global organization with locations around the world, DB Schenker is a logistics provider that’s always recognized the value and diversity in its employees. The company also knows by helping its more than 70,000 employees feel comfortable with who they are and who they want to be, it can continue to provide the extremely high service levels that its own customers have come to expect.
“Having an inclusive and diverse environment allows us to recruit the best and brightest talent,” said Roxana Gebke SHRM-SCP, Interim CPO, US at DB Schenker. “We encourage everyone to be their ‘true self,’ and to bring their diverse perspectives and backgrounds to work with them. This allows us to maximize those attributes and provide the best products and services possible.”
After all, only when employees feel comfortable with who they are and who they want to be can they bring their best ideas forth and strive to be the best employees possible. “Everyone is comfortable with themselves and accepts themselves, and that level of diversity gets us a better product,” said Gebke. “We need diversity in all aspects of who we are as an employer to continue to move and bring those best ideas forward.”
Celebrating Pride Month
DB Schenker is certainly not alone in its quest to develop and nurture a diverse, inclusive workforce around the globe. Companies across all industries are working toward this goal, and events like Pride Month help remind all of us of the importance of adopting these mindsets in our modern world.
Pride Month is celebrated in June to coincide with the catalyst of the Gay Liberation Movement that was the Stonewall Uprising. According to People, this June is the 52nd anniversary of the first Pride parade, which happened in 1970, one year after the uprising. Pride Month is all about respecting everyone’s rights and making sure they feel like they belong in the place where they are.
“It’s super important that we not only embrace and celebrate it,” CNN points out, “but that we [also] continue to push forward in highlighting it and making sure that everybody is able to come together, work together and feel like they belong.”
Creating a safe and inclusive work environment
Focused on providing a safe and inclusive working environment for all of its employees, DB Schenker continually works to ensure that its policies, recruiting efforts and training are focused on creating an environment where people can be their true selves, and where they can bring that authenticity with them to work every day.
“Not only does DB Schenker want this and embrace it, but we also continually push forward with it,” said Gebke. “We want to be that employer of choice, and the only way to do that is by making sure everyone feels welcome, comfortable and safe when they come to work.”
As an organization, DB Schenker believes that everyone is able and welcome to work in the global logistics sector, where it has retained its status as a competitive employer within that space. “For us, continuing to be steadfast and resolute in the fact that we will be committed to being an inclusive and open work environment for all employees across the globe,” said Gebke.
Providing the best service
DB Schenker’s customers get the best of the best. And when the logistics provider meets its diversity and inclusivity goals, those customers get even more than they bargained for. “We often talk about our customers as our partners. We want to be one that leaves this world better than it was yesterday,” Gebke said, “and the best way to do that is by making sure we gather everyone together and move forward toward making this a better place for everyone.”
That starts with ensuring that new employees feel welcome from their first day on the job at DB Schenker. When that happens, DB Schenker’s customers can be proud to partner with the logistics provider and they can also expect the highest level of service. “We have the best employees possible around the globe working with them,” said Gebke, “and making sure that service is provided at the highest caliber.”
